Automobiles in German Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials say early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

City officials said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.

A high-ranking official commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
